What do you know about this breed?

 |
Thinking about getting a Siberian Husky?
I don't blame you! Besides being beautiful and fun-loving, this breed has some qualities that you should know about
BEFORE you fall in love with and bring home that special puppy or adult.
- THEY SHED - once or twice a year, Siberians "blow" their
coat. It usually starts with a small clump of hair that appears longer than the coat around it. It isn't long
after that you find large clumps of fur clinging to your furniture, drapes, and blowing around the floors. If you pride
yourself in keeping an immaculate home, this is not the breed for you.
- THEY NEED TO HAVE A FENCED IN YARD - if you do
not allow them to run freely in a securely fenced yard, they will become frustrated and destructive.
- THEY NEED TO HAVE
A FENCED IN YARD - since Siberians were bred to
pull sleds (in other words, to run as fast as they can AWAY from you), they need a fence at least 5' high above ground, and
another 12" burried below ground.
- THEY NEED TO HAVE A FENCED IN YARD -
because some of them are escape artists. A free-running Siberian is likely to be hit by a car and killed. In most
communities, it is against the law for dogs to run free.
- THEY DIG HOLES - if you have a manicured lawn and take
pride in your landscaping, this is not the breed for you. In addition to digging holes at random places in your yard,
(refer to Item #4), they can and do dig holes along the fenceline to escape.
- THEY ARE NOT GUARD DOGS - Siberians are "equal opportunity lenders". Don't expect
your Siberian to guard your home, or your possessions. He's more apt to take the intruder on a tour of your home pointing
out all the valuables!
Understand that conscientious breeders will always screen their puppy buyers
very thoroughly. At Micast, we don't have litters all that often. We prefer to breed a litter a year (or sometimes
every few years). When we do have a litter we try and make sure that our puppies go to excellent loving homes.
